On Coming Together

In a spiritual belief system that espouses the Oneness of all life, rancorous divisions and schisms are anomalies. They are life circumstances that are out of tune with an Infinite Order. Differences of opinions, respectful disagreements are one thing, but hateful, spiteful name calling and pitched physical battles become blots on harmonious living. Everyone becomes tense, upset and weary due to the waste of precious energies.

 Land of the free...

Left to its own spiritual devices, healthy living returns, but constant jabbing and poking keeps the country aflame and people disoriented. If this is the land of the free and the home of the brave, perhaps we should remind ourselves of these ideals. Robert Reich, political commentator, professor of public policy at U.C. Berkeley and former Secretary of State under Bill Clinton, stated that ours is a country of “ideals and norms” … a land where lawful striving is a path to success. We are a nation of titans, tech workers, teachers and taxi drivers, and all have a place.

The people of God...

It is ours to come together as “spiritual beings living a human life,” as philosopher, Wayne Dyer, used to say. As long as there is consistent divisiveness, we will need consistent prayer as a reminder of our divine connection, consistent overtures, smiles, and conversations with people we might usually not encounter. We will need to start and re-start over and over until we naturally remember our shared heritage. Whether we are religiously inclined or not, do we not realize that we are all the people of God?

Philosopher, Emmet Fox, once wrote, “There is no wall that enough love will not throw down, no sin that enough love will not redeem.” Here lies the answer.
