On Coming Home

As time goes by, I think that, sooner or later, we all discover a “home base” that holds meaning for us, and if we haven’t thought about it, maybe we should. We need a place to land, so to speak, which can be a different setting for everyone.

 A special friend or relative...

For many of us, our “home” is a special friend or relative, someone who represents a welcoming heart that receives us, no matter what. For others, it is an actual place, a location, maybe somewhere during our growing-up period that meant comfort or safety. And there are times when participating in our actual work circumstance brings us home whenever we engage in it, where we feel more fully alive when we are involved.

A place of accord...

If we are blessed, we may even discover that there is a home base deep within us, a place of accord that always awaits us at the end of the day or the end of a busy cycle, where we can count on ourselves to settle in. We may, of course, share this with others, but it is first and foremost a center that we have built through self awareness and spiritual practice. Of all our “homes”, perhaps this one can be the most satisfying, for it is always with us, the most welcoming of all

  1. Home is where the heart is. Dr. Tom Johnson said, "We are always at home."
