Growing Up

What does it mean to “take responsibility?” Does it mean to take charge of something we got stuck with? It can, especially if we seem to be the “take charge” folks on hand. But although this may be something we can and will do, there is usually not much of a pleasure in it. We didn’t plan on it; we just caught it. Taking responsibility for something we choose… now that’s another matter! There is anticipation in such responsibility; we are marshalling our resources in readiness; perhaps we can even feel an excitement around the activity.

Be more than we can be...

If we have taken on a chosen responsibility, it often allows us an opportunity to grow into it. If we have entered into something we are not quite sure about, we’ll need to get ready, to get fit, much like saying yes to the care of a child for the very first time. What better time is there than to grow into the chance to be more than we are!! The opportunity to escape the slack of “sameness” can be quite wonderful.

Become "all that we can be"....

We might be well past our physical growth time, but make no mistake: If we are smart, we will find continuous means to grow mentally and emotionally, to become—as some like to say—“all that we can be.” Almost makes you want to rub your hands together in glee, doesn’t it?
