The New Year

We’re in a new year now, which can mean as much or as little as we want it to mean. Often we take the turn of a new year as a symbolic time to take a new path, perhaps to close down something that is no longer relevant, or an opportunity just to see things differently. And then, there’re always “things as usual,” and that may work also.

What will 2020 offer us?...

What will 2020 offer us? Is there so much involvement in what we may currently be doing that we need not look up and take a breather? Or is there an open place for us to consider or reconsider a “path not taken,” which can be important right now? We all know that our public times need caring, confident leaders and considerate citizens as seldom before, and there have been historic times when we needed to “rally ‘round the flag.” Could this be one of them?

"Rule of the people" has great meaning...

Do we need to look up from or private concerns for a spell to see if our country needs us? Democracies exist because informed, involved people mind the store and participate in their wants and needs. “Rule of the people” has great meaning in a land with inherent freedoms. Such freedoms, although durable, can become fragile left untended and become perverted and destroyed by inattention and improper assumptions.

Are we paying attention here?
