On Where We Find Ourselves
As Americans, many of us may find ourselves in a very uncertain place, especially in the world of politics. In fact a journalist recently wrote that we are in for a “wild ride,” and that may absolutely be so. This is a time that may cause us to ask what we know about ourselves. What are our basic beliefs and connections? Since I am from a spiritual-but-not-religious perspective, such a question drives me to my inner core. Basically I believe in the oneness of all life with the Creative Presence. I believe that this connection cannot be broken, only obscured from time to time, and I believe that we are in a time and place that calls for us to be an opening for good.
Our divine centers...
If this sounds a bit wishy-washy it is only because we may not yet see what form the good will take, but it is ours to remember that no person, place nor thing external to ourselves can interfere with our divine centers. We can only allow this to happen and then only until we come to ourselves once more.
We are not alone...
We are not alone. There are many who are awakening to their inner strengths and, almost organically, discovering one another. We may be gathering in the "Wisdom Circles" that human development pioneer, Jean Houston, speaks of. The need for doing right by one another is becoming more and more obvious. The opportunities for love to light the way are without end. If we have looked upon some others as strangers among us because they are different, let us remember the basic oneness we all share and reach out in kindness and genuine concern. These, I believe, are the very beginnings of where we find ourselves now.
These openings are ours to extend. Every day.
