Blogging on Love... again...

At the risk of boring my readers, I’m blogging on the need for active, practical love again. As I have often written, when our leaders do not lead, the people must lead. And, once again, our leaders are not leading. In fact our politicos are doing what they can to cordon us off into groups that hate one another. Outrageous! Outlandish! Is this any way for citizens to behave toward one another??

What can we do?

What can we do, one may ask? Run for office, if we’ve a mind to do so…join groups that want to work together to accomplish some good…teach our children about respect for others…get out and vote… And there are also small, daily personal acts we can take. How quickly would we make conversation with a snappy dresser in a blue suit wearing fawn-colored shoes? Or a guy in a cargo vest? Would we stop a minute to help a frazzled mother with little kids trying to board a bus? Would we just walk by an old lady who seemed a little confused? There are so many human acts we could perform in a day if we are not put off by someone’s unfamiliar culture or different clothing. This, without a doubt, would simply be ordinary love in action.

Never lose a chance to bring love...

As spiritual beings living in the world today, I believe we should never lose a chance to bring love to bear whenever we get the chance. This would be a perfect antidote to thoughtless, divisive leadership that breaks down rather than builds up.

  1. In a video I watched a few months ago, the presenter said that the biggest problem with American politics is contempt. That attitude seems to be the norm in political rhetoric. The more I contemplate that word, the more unGodly it sounds. Contempt creates the illusion of otherness, but there is no other - we're all One. Thank you, Dr. Margaret, for reminding us what Love looks like in daily life. We must indeed be leaders if we are to create a world that works for all.
