Living Systems

As our word usage changes, so do the ways in which we see ourselves. For example, for years we were “human beings”, “individuals,” etc. Now we are “living systems,” which is a much broader view of a living person who is made up of more complexities than we imagined. Now we are living systems within living systems, so it seems that thinking of ourselves as just folks who put both feet on the floor when getting out of bed in the mornings is way too simple!

Cooperative parts of a system...

Perhaps it is good that we see ourselves as cooperative parts of a system so intertwined that we cannot avoid affecting the other parts. If we really are part of a unified whole, perhaps we will really need to pay more attention to what and who our thoughts and actions really touch. Essentially we are larger and more expansive than we thought we were. Even if we spend a lot of time alone, our thoughts do not; our behaviors do not, for we affect others in ways we may not know about.

Take notice...

It is well worth our time and energy to take notice of the nature of our thoughts and words. Are they excellent? Are they high minded? Do we pass along ideas that affirm life, and if not, why not? If we are wrapped in spirituality as we have been told, shouldn’t our lives reflect this spirituality in such  ways that always brings our good to life?
