Another year, another time, another chance---to make amends, to correct mistakes, to begin anew with another set of 365 days before us. Certainly the earth, as it makes its rotations around the sun, does not care that we humans need an arbitrary time for celebrations, contemplations and perhaps some complete restructuring of things that lie ahead. The larger picture always looms overhead, but let’s not worry about that right now. Let’s take some quiet time for ourselves to determine what’s important, what is not, what needs to go, and what needs to be cherished.
For some of us who have much more physical past than future, some things may seem exquisitely important while others, once so very significant, may now compel very little attention. The natural assessments that may be taking place belong strictly to us and are subject to no one’s judgments but our own.
So, with our own precious selves in mind, let us be kind when looking inward. Let us have a soft hand when making self critiques. Let us practice lots and lots of forgiveness---for ourselves and others, and, above all, let us not be afraid to poke into new possibilities, whatever the season of our life may be.
