About Hope
Where would we be without hope? Stuck in the past, that’s where. Caught in the old acts and disappointments that have not been resolved, a past that holds both successes and failures, but in a word…the past. Only with hope can tomorrow loom large. Only with hope can we consider possibilities.
Creative possibilities...
Like our planet, which contains the creative possibilities of the Divine Spirit, we, too, are by nature full of Infinite possibilities. In other words, we are full of hope, even if at times we seem to be downtrodden and discouraged. In fact, often in spite of ourselves, as Alexander Pope wrote, “hope springs eternal,” I think because this is one of our spiritual gifts.
Hope supposes a future...
It is natural to look ahead, whether we are in the midst of joy or woe. It is natural to imagine what the next day, or month, or year will be like. Hope supposes a future, and most of the time, we cannot pose a life without a future, sometimes for ourselves and sometimes for loved ones.
More fully alive...
We are wise to cultivate hope, for this ensures that we will think and look up as we are caught in the flow of life, and that we will not obstruct ourselves in being more fully alive.
Obviously part of life is about hope. We are wise to realize this.
