On Becoming Angels

Let me not confuse anyone when I speak of angels. I am not talking about other worldly, wraith-like figures with wings and halos. I am thinking of us, regular people, who are becoming the best that we can be. Many of us have learned the hard way what it means when we bring a vengeful, angry self to the fore as we go out the door each day. We find upset returned, people who will choose not to deal with us, and the loss of friends we could be making, were it not for our miseries and the absence of what Abraham Lincoln might call the “better angels of our nature.”

A divinely-inspired sense of self....

Lincoln recognized that there is an excellent part of us that we could call forth. We might consider this a divinely-inspired sense of self if we are spiritually inclined. Or we might be pragmatically referring to the part of us that knows better inherently and can always do better, the part of us that lives with the angels in doing good and bringing healing.
We can recognize our own power...

Each day that we awaken, we can decide how we will conduct our day. We can toss away the possibilities before us and let ourselves be blown around by winds of uncertainty, which will assure an uneven day. Or we can recognize our own power and choose to use our strength and love on what comes before us.

I say yes to this!  Wouldn't it be great to be someone's angel?
