Resident Joy

As we grow in age and wisdom, many things and qualities are added to us as we move along in life, such as patience, durability, curiosity, persistence, etc. There is one, however, that I believe we come into life with as a gift, and that is the quality of joy, a divine establishment if there ever was one. Even a baby does not have to learn how to smile and giggle during the course of his days. It comes naturally. We seem to know how to experience joy without the slightest need for tutoring!

 Joy is simply...there.

I consider joy as different from happiness, which seems to be event based. Something or someone needs to be rightly placed for us to experience happiness, while joy is simply… there…or…here… on its own and can show up at any time because it just “is.”

We need the ease and refreshment of whispers of joy....

We often speak of the joy of living, and perhaps there is great truth in that statement. Maybe it is the vitality and energy needed to produce life which causes joy to be in a kind of natural attendance. Whatever it is, we are blessed to be able to turn to it at any time. And in these demanding times, we need to be open to joy easily and effortlessly. So much is required and demanded of us as spiritual thinkers that we need the ease and refreshment of whispers of joy stirring through us throughout the day.
