On Massive Love

Well, we’re into it again, the uber- nastiness of political campaigns which seem to have hit a new height of uncouth behaviors in the unbridled combativeness of some of the candidates. Hopefully there will be a settling down somewhat, but the name calling and the insults will continue. Does anyone wonder how we have grown into such uncivilized behaviors where insults and name calling are common procedures? Not just in the political arena but often in just the ways in which we deal with one another. I believe that many of us find this bruising and may walk away feeling diminished, not heard, not considered. These are not the hallmarks of self-aware spiritual beings. These are not the ways those who believe in the spirituality of others would treat one another.

Calm beauty...

What if we simply got back to practicing basic spiritual love…all day, every day, in as many ways as we are able? What if we decided to withhold censorious judgments and view others as doing the best they can at any moment? What if we silently sent the thought, “I love you,” to every person and situation we encountered? This is not just sentimental thinking; this is the kind of purposeful thinking that changes atmospheres. Consider the last time you visited an empty church sanctuary and felt the calm beauty embedded in the walls of a place where prayer dwells.

Thoughtful hearts...

It does not matter whether we begin practicing spiritual love just one person at a time. Others notice when someone invites them into their thoughtful hearts. Others want the comfort and peace of welcome when they enter a room. Hugs may be a part of some welcomes or maybe the extension of a warm hand or tap on the shoulder. We are talking about massive love… love that fills all space… chosen love…big love…tiny love…anywhere…any day…any time…non-stop and gentle…one offer of help…one invitational look…one show of interest…one thoughtful word.

Could we begin to change the world a little at a time? I think we could.
