On Lotsa Prayer
Some people think that prayer is for wimps, for people who are powerless to do anything else. They are dead wrong. Yes, sometimes prayer seems to be the only thing at hand, but people who pray are power-filled, not powerless. They engage in measured thought with a love-filled heart. They cut way down on rushes to judgment and harmful acts they will later regret. Prayer guides; prayer inspires; prayer clears the mind and fortifies our choices.
"Other-izing"....
We are beset by media that sensationalizes and loud-mouthed politicians who incite. They are busy “other-izing” some of our diverse countrymen with the foreboding shadows of WWII thrusting forth. As a child during the 1940’s, I saw the fear-driven behaviors regarding Japanese Americans. It is unbelievable to me that one of our Presidential candidates wants to drag us back into the years of hatred for the sake of hatred, fear for the sake of fear. Am I watching the old behaviors again as Muslims become the newest group to be hated and feared? This is my greatest fear.
The ploughshare must follow...
We need prayer…incredible prayer, prayer while standing, prayer in our sitting down, prayer while walking, prayer in prostration…lotsa prayer. It should precede every choice, every act so that we move into our days with a clear head and a loving heart. I’m not a wimp, nor am I a jingoist either. I am an American, but before that I am a spiritual being trying to recognize other spiritual beings for what they truly are. I know that sometimes the use of the sword is necessary to protect immediately, but the ploughshare must always follow for healing to take place.
Live and let live....
I believe that healthy people want to live and let live. We all want food, shelter and protection for ourselves and our families. For most of us, no matter where we live, this is universal. The intention to connect with the Infinite, however we view this, reveals this. Prayer is the way.
