Christmas Dreams

          

Many of us may no longer be attentive to the beliefs and stories of the traditional origins of Christmas, but some wonderful themes have developed over the years that have become loving and valuable. A couple of such themes are the capacity to be made new again as well as vital time for gift giving. Actually these themes matter because we can always use more reasons to enjoy living more completely and with greater enthusiasm.

Every day is right to give a gift...

If we are not stretching our minds forward into what we don’t know, we risk getting too comfortable in old modes of thinking and can get stale, dull and uninteresting, which in my mind, would be a “fate worse than death.” Even more engaging are the opportunities to bring our gifts to others. Christmas time is a joyous time for this, but any and every day is right to give a gift… and maybe not necessarily something material. We all know how happiness can be shared if we but bring a good story, pay loving attention to one who needs us, or perhaps just be on hand for someone who needs a friend.

The sense of more expectation...

I think that the flows, the modes of Christmas should accompany us everywhere we go each day. So many situations need more from us then just a casual touch, enough to get by but little more. How much can a circumstance be enhanced if we come to it with the sense of more expectation in us… if our generous natures have the chance to bring a gift of Christmas dreaming into being all year long?
