Every Day is a Resurrection

I got to thinking about the idea of resurrection a while back and looked up the meaning of the word in the dictionary, which said that it was “the act of rising from the dead”, specifically “the rising of Christ after His death and burial.” This, of course, refers to a special historical/religious meaning, but there is the suggestion of resurrection with a more practical meaning, something that could refer to anyone. In a manner of speaking, resurrection could be considered a kind of “waking up,” possibly from a long night’s sleep or from a kind of ignorance.

A new day's activities...

Every day that we awaken to a new day’s activities, we are engaging in a kind of resurrection. After a hopefully refreshing sleep, we are ready to go again into the demands of a new set of hours. Actually each new set of hours is a gift of sorts. We have another opportunity to make new our lives again, perhaps to heal something that needs renewing or to create something that has awaited our attention.

A spark of new awareness in us...

We could ask: Will it just be one more awakening in a slog of awakenings that count only as participation in a series of unremarkable awakenings? Or this time, will there be a spark of new awareness in us that knows we can set a special mark on this awakening? There is a specialness about the resurrection of a new day. There are always awaiting possibilities. Will today be that resurrection that holds real meaning?
