On the Quiet

No question about it. There are times when we must get away from the din of the everyday interactions of life into at least a modicum of quiet time. We need to hear ourselves think without the intrusion of demands. We need to be able to let our thoughts pass from us into a flow of nothingness so that we can be relieved of the need to “think and do” all the time.

One thing at a time...

The stimulated mind does not think of only one thing at a time and is always hurrying through an army of demands, none of which are helpful to the mind that needs stillness. Like our bodies, our minds need to back off, settle down and be still enough to be refreshed.

An active world cannot always help us...

Sometimes we will need to create our own quiet times and places since an active, busy world cannot always help us. Of course we all need adequate sleep, but this is not the same as being quietly alert to a needed time out. Consider that love does not usually flourish in a state of frenzy, for it usually needs the opportunity to blossom in a quietly, wakeful atmosphere.

Recognize...when it is time to be quiet...

For our own wellbeing, for our own refreshment, let us be wise enough to recognize… for our sake’s, for love’s sake… when it is time to be quiet, to be rested, to be renewed… and then allow this to happen.
