A few weeks ago I wrote a blog “On Leadership” about the willingness of ordinary Americans to take up positions of leadership right where they are. In fact, here is a brief quote from that piece: “It is exciting to discover that we are more than we think we are, that there is another arena within us that can bring a greater good to life.”
Increasingly expanding community groups...
Sure enough! I recently heard information on public radio about increasingly expanding community groups who are willing to run their own affairs rather than be led by Facebook and other huge social media organizations. These groups are thinking about their special, local needs and are willing to take responsibility for organizing and overseeing them.
Taking responsibility...
And taking responsibility will be required! Whenever local groups are determined to guide their own affairs, they will need to step up to the responsibility for consistent leadership on a regular basis… and for their own financing! If they do not, their interests will begin to fall back under the power of big media organizations with lots of money.
Local democracy...
Interesting, isn’t it, that a determined, community strain of local democracy is making itself known! Perhaps we, the people, are beginning to trust ourselves more and thoughtless, remote leadership less!
