Thinking Ahead

A lot can be said for engaging the mental exercise of thinking ahead, especially if we don’t want to be consistently barraged by surprises! Lots of unexpected “oops” showing up are not much fun and can use up a great deal of correctional time putting things back in order. Actually for some of us, thinking ahead can be an exercise in quickness of mind, decisiveness and vigorous anticipation. In other words, can I anticipate what is coming so that I can prepare an appropriate response and not end up in a “chase” mode too often?

Keep mundane stuff in order.....

We could ask ourselves: What must we do to keep mundane stuff in order? We might, for instance, see that our bills are paid on time so that we can avoid nasty phone calls. If we are married or living with a partner, we can experience more joy with them if we pay attention to their wants and needs to ensure their comfort; and if we value our own time and energy we will pay attention to what we set in motion so that it doesn’t get away from us.

Our thoughts and actions are precious...

It makes perfect sense for us to care about our places in life and realize that our thoughts and actions are precious. Why ever would we want to let our values be wasted by inattention and inconsideration? And the answer is that we would not. Thinking ahead is our wonderful tool. Let’s use it!
