Passages

Of the many actions that fill our lives, some of the most prominent and ever-present are passages, some of which are very subtle and often not noticed, such as the trickle of water bubbling along in a nearby creek, and some which we cannot miss, as the steady growth of an infant into childhood. Try as we might, using avoidance and disinterest, we cannot miss these life-changing moments that mark our everyday lives since we are a consistent part of other peoples’ lives as well as our own.

Life Passages...

Some of these life passages we initiate… sometimes with care, and sometimes without much thought. Others seem to happen without our intention, and we just find ourselves moving along with them, which then sets up a question: Are we really paying much mind to the things of our lives, or are we often caught in a flow we neither wanted nor acceded to?

Attention...

Attention, then becomes an important word in our daily activities. If we do not wish to find ourselves caught in a moment we did not say “yes” to, we may need to guide our thoughts and actions more fully so that each day has more real meaning and intention and less “accidents” marking the passage of time. Better a guided life moved by genuine purpose than one that goes forth in fits and starts from one misstep to another, yes?
