Come Joy

For many years I have believed that, no matter how wonderful… or how dire… occasions may be, the divine element of joy is always present… hard to find at times, but present, and I have had many occasions to test this idea. Just within the last couple of years, I have experienced several sad losses and, at times, could not seem to find a speck of joy anywhere. Then I simply “called” on joy, called it out, and then, even as a tiny sparkle, I felt it. Very quiet, very unassuming, yet it was there.

We have it in us...

I write this to assure us that we have it in us to taste joy, no matter how difficult or sorrowful the occasion, and it is greatly worth the effort to draw our attentions together and call out joy, especially when it seems nowhere to be found. If we are truly “spiritual beings living a human life,” as Wayne Dyer used to say, then we can expect joy to show up anywhere if we but make the move to allow it.

Joy is never far behind...

Actually I think that there is a form of redemption in us whenever we remember that, no matter what comes or goes, joy is never far behind. It may be in the soft hand of comfort offered by someone who cares for us. It may be in the right word spoken. Yes, joy is present. We simply need to be open to it.

Life as a Human/Divine Being

As far as I am concerned, the late Wayne Dyer spoke one of the most wonderful, meaningful statements of spirituality ever made when he remarked, “We are spiritual beings living a human life.” In these few words he captured the essence of who we really are. In our Oneness with God, we are steeped in spiritual wholeness, at the same time we are walking in the footsteps of a human being! What can it mean to know that we have heavenly portents even as we are encased in the limitations of humanity?

 We can open our minds....

What it means is that we can know and do a whole lot more things than we do now. Using the Divine Mind every time we think, we can open our minds to more wisdom and inspiration than we might indicate in our daily living. We can also consider our bodies as blessings that will serve us more completely than we thought as well.

We could bring more Love...Joy...Healing...Creativity...

What if we really chose to live as spiritual beings? What if we understood more fully that we are the places where God stands forth in the world as ourselves? What incredible Good might we bring into the world as every day activities? We could bring more Love, more Joy, more Healing, more Creativity into our world by just changing our minds about who we are!

Let’s not allow ignorance to keep us from doing so! Not any more…

Are Joy and Beauty part of our Nature?

Some months ago I was listening to a professor of Music Theory from a Michigan University on PBS radio. Somehow she had gotten ahold of some musical compositions made by inmates in the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp during WWII and had the compositions transcribed. One song in particular took her attention, and she had it orchestrated and then played for us, the listeners. What was stunning to her…and to us also…was the lilting, joyous, almost euphoric melodies which made up the song. What amazed her…and me, a listener…was how people in such a horrific surrounding could produce such beautiful music! Somehow it defied reason.

Joy, beauty, and creativity...

I was left to wonder…Are joy, beauty, and creativity so natural to us that they will eventually “out,” no matter what? Are there divine qualities in us that simply cannot be stamped out?

What fired the composers...

Since the professor found no clues as to how the inmates were thinking, we are left with our imaginations to estimate what fired the composers. Perhaps they were determined that their creations might survive. Perhaps they wanted to give the future their gifts, no matter what.

These are worthy considerations...

Certainly these are worthy considerations, and they deserve our best introspections, maybe to the point that we may discover far more wonders in us than we had imagined. It would be truly wonderful to feel that our divine natures always contain the best of the Infinite, and that It may escape at any time.

Perhaps there is more to being a human/divine creation than we know!
